Yuma, Arizona (NAPSI) - A combination of the latest weed management recommendations and financial incentives is helping farmers fight tough-to-control and glyphosate-resistant weeds.

They’re participating in Roundup Ready PLUS™ Weed Management Solutions developed by Monsanto in conjunction with and supported by university academics, agronomists and other industry partners.

“Last year, more than 50,000 soybean, cotton and corn growers participated and received financial incentives totaling nearly $100 million to help offset the cost of using qualifying, industry-leading residual herbicide products,” says Chris Reat, marketing manager for Roundup Ready PLUS Weed Management Solutions.

Midwestfarmer Darrin Johnson follows the weed management recommendations to help control lambsquarters and waterhemp in his corn and soybeans. “On our farm, we feel it’s better to be proactive than reactive where these weeds are concerned,” Johnson says. “Using herbicides with different modes of action is a great strategy, and the financial incentive we receive is an added bonus.”

In the South, many cotton and soybean farmers are seeing improved control of glyphosate-resistant pigweed by participating in the platform. “We have such high pressure from resistant weeds in this area that it is critical that we use residual herbicides,” says farmer Hugh Dollar. “Without residual herbicides, we would not be able to stay ahead of these weeds, which grow two to three times faster than our cotton.”
