Brownsville, Texas - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brownsville Station seize 971 pounds of marijuana. On Tuesday evening Brownsville Border Patrol agents, utilizing a Remote Video Surveillance Systems, observed several subjects running north from the Rio Grande River near Brownsville, Texas. The individuals appeared to be carrying several large bundles. Agents operating the RVSS contacted agents in the immediate area and advised them of the activity. The agents continued to monitor the subjects activities as they loaded the bundles into a waiting SUV and returned to Mexico. The SUV started to depart the area as the notified agents were responding. When the driver of the SUV encountered the oncoming Border Patrol vehicles, the driver abandoned the vehicle and its contents fleeing back into Mexico. The agents recovered 14 bundles of marijuana in a Tahoe. The 14 bundle of marijuana weighing 971 pounds with an approximate valued of $776,800, and the vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. |
