Salt Lake City, Utah - Kern River Gas Transmission Company announced today it is holding a non-binding open season through June 18, 2009, to determine shipper interest in firm year-round transportation service from receipt points in Wyoming and Utah to delivery points into California. If sufficient interest is demonstrated and Kern River decides to proceed, any new expansion service resulting from this open season would be available by Jan. 1, 2013.

Kern River’s non-binding open season is being held simultaneously with Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s California Gas Transmission open season to expand its Baja Path. The PG&E open season proposes to interconnect with the Kern River/Mojave pipeline at a new interconnect to be named Arvin, located adjacent to the bifurcation point on the Kern River/Mojave pipeline near Arvin, Calif.

Kern River expects the most economically viable project to be delivery of 200,000 decatherms per day of natural gas to the new Arvin interconnect and up to an additional 100,000 Dth/d to existing or new delivery points upstream of the Arvin delivery point. Kern River may consider a larger expansion if supported by market interest.

To express interest in the open season, a shipper must submit a non-binding expression of interest to Kern River by 4 p.m. MDT June 18, 2009. Interested shippers can contact Kern River business development representatives Greg Snow at 801-937-6270 or Todd Kremer at 801-937-6273 for more information. Non-binding expressions of interest should be faxed to 801-937-6444.

Kern River Gas Transmission Company owns and operates a 1,680-mile interstate natural gas pipeline between southwestern Wyoming and Southern California. With headquarters in Salt Lake City, Kern River currently delivers more than 1.7 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas to expanding markets in Utah, Nevada and California. Kern River is a subsidiary of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company.
