Dayton, Ohio - Dayton Power and Light (DP&L) employees will be patrolling for trash along a one-mile stretch of the Miami River during the Five Rivers MetroParks Cleanup day on April 18. DP&L has participated in this annual event for more than 15 years, with employees volunteering their time to make the Dayton waterways cleaner for the community.
Later in the year, DP&L will begin to enhance local environments by converting interior turf areas at some of the company’s substations to prairie meadows. These new natural landscape elements at DP&L facilities will reduce noise and emissions caused by mowing, and will provide an aesthetic natural buffer between DP&L’s equipment and adjacent properties. The initial program will involve planting approximately 70 acres of prairie by the end of 2009. This includes land in Montgomery, Greene, Darke, Logan, Highland, Clinton and Miami counties. DP&L is working with several local park districts and Meadow Environments LLC of Huron, Ohio, in the selection of the best plants to be used. Native plants designer John Blakeman of Meadow Environments will design the new natural landscape features. |
