Yuma, Arizona - With unemployment at a 16-year high of 7.6 percent and job opportunities very scarce, what job seeker wouldn't want to hire a career coach? Arizona Western College’s Career Development office has the resources you need to help guide you and prepare you to find a new position. They can also help job seekers articulate their strengths and passions in professional communications (e.g., résumés, cover letters, "elevator pitches" and mock job interviews) that will grab hiring managers' attention. AWC’s Career Development Coordinators have the resources to fine tune the job seekers resume. They have the ability to work on interview methods and perfect the job seekers delivery.With the U.S. economy now in recession, the job market is changing dramatically. Competition for jobs is heating up as an increasing number of skilled professionals, laid off from their companies, flood the market. The Career Development Coordinators will be offering workshops and job fairs over the next few months that will be free and open to the public. Workshops on resume writing, interviewing skills and preparing for the job market will be held at the Yuma County Heritage Branch Library, 350 S. 3rd Ave., on March 3rd and 5th from 6pm to 8pm. Job Seekers in the South County can learn more about preparing for the job market at a Career Education event on March 25th from 2pm to 6pm at the AWC San Luis Center. Whether job seekers are new to the job market due to a phase out of their current position, going back to school or just want to network, the AWC Career Development Department Job Fair: “Help Wanted : Apply Here.” This event will be held on the AWC Main Campus on Wednesday, April 15th from 9am - 1pm. The Job Fair is open to the public and is a free networking resource for those looking for a new career path. More than 50 employers will be on hand marketing jobs, internships and volunteer opportunities at the Job Fair. A diverse representation of organizations including local and federal government entities, the military, law enforcement, retail, education, media and non-profits are participating.
