Edinburg, Texas - Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley sector rescued one person from the Rio Grande River yesterday evening.
At approximately 6 p.m. on April 15, 2008, agents assigned to the McAllen Border Patrol Station Boat Patrol were patrolling the Rio Grande River west of Hidalgo, Texas when they encountered an individual who was struggling to remain afloat while attempting to swim back to Mexico from the United States. Boat Unit personnel immediately deployed a flotation device and assisted the subject into their vessel. The subject, who declined medical attention, was transported to the McAllen Border Patrol Station for further processing. The Rio Grande Valley sector of the United States Border Patrol has been involved in the rescue of over 100 people between October 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008. |
